Have you ever wondered how ads are served to pages on a website?
Most of the time this is done automatically by keywords contained in the content of a page. For instance, when I wrote about doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing Google served ads to that page that encouraged people to “book accommodation at the Chateau” or do an alpine tramp. In that case ad-serving works properly.
Every now and then it completely stuffs up. Here’s a screen shot from Stuff a few weeks ago that I’ve been meaning to share with you.
This goes to show that ad-serving can be totally inappropriate at times – both for the victims (who have no need for a rental car) nor for the advertiser.
In fact, there will be people out there who will be thinking how insensitive Budget were in making this ‘relevant offer’.
Some things are best done manually.
